West Ham release statement over stadium disagreement.

The London stadium is extremely unpopular amongst West Ham fans. While it feels far from home, there are certain aspects to like.

In particular, the financial aspects of the deal have allowed for the club to take part in business they perhaps wouldn’t have been able to otherwise.

However, the biggest issue with not owning your own stadium is the fact that you have very little control over what happens there.

While most fans will think of a lack of home preseason friendlies, and the lack of control over the awful seating, it also has meant that there’s been very few women’s games at the stadium. In fact, West Ham are the only WSL team to not host a game at the men’s team’s home since 2019.

“Securing another women’s game at the London Stadium is a key priority for West Ham United,” a club statement read. “This can only happen with the dual commitment to the growth and sustainability for West Ham United Women, an approach supported in updated WSL guidance.”

“West Ham strive for parity between the men’s and women’s teams wherever practically possible and as such are willing to invest the sums required to put a game on at the London Stadium. The barrier to progress is the excessive charges E20 are demanding to host West Ham United Women, significantly more than the comparative cost to stage men’s home games.”

“The club remain hopeful of reaching a fair way forward for women’s football at the London Stadium.”
