Rumours suggesting Graham Potter has told the West Ham a new striker is not a priority make complete sense, despite the negative fan reaction.
According to @westhamfootball on X, Graham Potter has told the Hammers hierarchy that a new striker is no longer a priority. Niclas Fullkrug is expected to stay and has impressed Graham Potter during pre-season.
Callum Marshall is also an option for Potter after scoring against Grasshoppers, and Michail Antonio could yet sign a new contract too.
There has been a shocked and negative to this on social media, however I can understand it. We do need a striker this summer, however I can see why it’s not a priority because we know we have to sell before we buy this summer
We probably have about £20m left in the kitty after selling Kudus for £55m and buying Diouf for £19m. That money needs to be spent on a central midfielder, if we don’t sign at least one CM with mobility this summer, I can see us struggling again next season.
While a striker shouldn’t be THE priority, it should still be a priority and probably should be the focus after we bring in s couple of midfielders, it would also be great if we could sign a left-winger to compete with Summerville. We’ve sorted the full-back position with the Diouf and Walker-Peters signings, so we don’t need any more of those, and it looks like Nayef Aguerd will remain at the club, so we don’t need a centre-back.
Striker should 100% be the priority after we’ve sorted out the midfield.
