West Ham fan favourite urges club to sign £30 million Bayern Munich midfielder.

Edson Alvarez was once a real fan favourite amongst West Ham fans, but opinion on him is much more split. It seems a slight majority would be in favour of replacing him this Summer as he can be a liability with his discipline, has had a decline in form, and doesn’t seem particularly bothered.

As a result, the club are keen to sign some midfielders this Summer.

Although there are already some big names linked with the East London outfit, club legend Martin Allen has urged his former side to go all out of Bayern Munich man Joao Palhinha.

“Joao Palhinha used to be at Fulham, he is a very good player,” he told West Ham Zone.

“He’s a real tackler, he breaks up play, and he’s got a great engine and attitude. If West Ham could get him, I would go all out at any cost to get him. If it were to cost £30m to get him, I would definitely take him.”

“He is exactly what is needed, so I would sign Paulinha.”

On one hand I think signing a slow, ageing player for that amount of money is exactly the business we should be avoiding. On the other hand, signing an experienced player who can provide much of what Alvarez can not could be key this season, especially considering how many long-serving players the club have lost over the last few years.
