Lucas Paqueta has reportedly been found not guilty in relation to the spot fixing allegations that have plagued the player for the last 2 years.

The Football Association launched an investigation into the Brazil international back in 2023, in a move which denied the player a transfer to Manchester City, which also could well have seen Cole Palmer make the move to east London as part of the deal.

It’s an investigation which has plagued and frustrated the club and Paqueta himself greatly, with the player showing the mental effects it was having on him when he was very emotional in the match against Spurs at the London Stadium last season.

It is now understood that the player has been found innocent and therefore can continue his career, in what is a huge relief for all parties.

This hasn’t yet been confirmed by the club, however reliable sources suggest now that it is the case he has been found not guilty. The club have also confirmed that Lucas Paqueta and his team are now aware of the decision. The player is due to remain in the USA with the squad which is the biggest indicator of the innocent verdict.

It is not yet known whether the club or player will now begin legal proceedings against the FA, in light of the result following the long drawn out affair although it is highly likely.

The decision could see Paqueta depart the club in the coming weeks, with it understood that a move back to Brazil likely, with Flamengo the current frontrunners. There is however interest from other clubs. It is also thought though that Potter wishes to see his attitude and performance levels without this hanging over him. Should we see the Paqueta of old then there would be a strong temptation to keep the player. A decision will be made in the coming weeks.

The sale of Paqueta would further enable the club to press ahead with key transfer targets this summer or alternatively if he is kept the remaining budget becomes even more focused.
