Despite a recent radio silence, it still looks like Callum Wilson will become a West Ham player on a one-year contract after leaving Newcastle United.
The potential signing of Callum Wilson has been met with a very negative reaction from West Ham fans – his age, injury record, and David Sullivan’s relationship with his agent Will Salthouse are the biggest reasons why.
However, despite the reaction and lack of updates in recent days, Wilson is still likely to become a Hammer. There are a lot of negatives, but there are also some positives.
- His Premier League record.
Despite scoring 0 goals in 16 Premier League matches last season, Wilson’s overall record in the Premier League is great. He has 88 goals and 23 assists in 239 matches in England’s top flight. This shows what sort of player he can be with game time.
Wilson was injured a lot last season, which has been a problem throughout his career. However, when he has played, he has always been good. Apart from last season, he was back up to Alexander Isak, so he only got sporadic minutes off the bench; he had nowhere near enough time to make an impact.
If he were to come to West Ham, he would be a back-up to Niclas Fullkrug, but he would get a lot more minutes than he did behind Isak for obvious reasons.
2. He will be hungry
As mentioned before, Wilson has 88 Premier League goals. While it’s a long shot, Wilson is an ambitious person and player, and he will want to do all he can to get into that Premier League 100 club.
From what we’ve heard, Wilson is hungry to sign for West Ham, and he believes he can earn his place in the team. While we want players that are young and hungry, Wilson is far from young but if he is as eager to play and score goals in the Premier League still, maybe it won’t be as bad as we all expect.
