West Ham are targeting several midfielders as Graham Potter looks to improve this squad for the new season, with ExWHUEmployee providing an update.

The club are currently in the US as part of the Summer Series pre-season tour, as we take on Everton later today and look to get to winning ways after a narrow loss to Manchester United in the opening game.

The match against former boss’ David Moyes’ side provides West Ham the opportunity to showcase the work that has been put in so far this pre-season, and lift belief that the 2025/26 season is set to be a far improved on from the previous campaign.

Although the team are currently away, the club are working hard on trying to bring in new players to build Potters squad to align with his vision for how we should play our football, with our insider Ex providing an update on the current state of play in terms of midfield targets.

“As reported previously, we hold a strong interest in the likes of Mateus Fernandes of Southampton, although there is competition for his signature,” stated Ex on The West Ham Way Podcast. “The same can be said for Harvey Elliot, who is a big target for the club. However, he does prefer a side with European football so that could prove a stumbling block.

“I can also report that Romano Schmid of Werder Bremen is most definitely a target. The same goes for Jacob Ramsey.

“Ramsey is a client of Will Salthouse, so this could prove significant and its felt he can possibly be pursuaded to head to east London.

“Douglas Luiz is also still very much a target, although there is understandably competition for him this summer.”

“There are of course other midfielder targets but we have listed these before”.

Ex has also advised that a ‘top source’ at the club remarked on our recent midfield display against the Red Devils in the US. With it made clear that we were lacking both Lucas Paqueta and Edson Alvarez, which could well indicate that there is an expectation for them both to remain at the club unless a suitable offer comes in for them.

It’s understood that West Ham are going to hold out for around £60m for Paqueta should a club make a move, which rules out some clubs who have previously shown an interest.
