West Ham youngster Luis Guilherme is delighted with the opportunities given to him by Graham Potter in pre-season.
It was a tricky first season for Luis Guilherme after joining from Palmeiras last summer. Julen Lopetegui didn’t seem to fancy him, and Graham Potter didn’t trust him to start, despite Mohammed Kudus’ poor form on the left wing. However, Potter seems to have started to trust the attacker and had given him a good number of minutes in pre-season.
After the 2-1 win over Everton, Guilherme said: “I’m very happy to be playing this game. I think we did very well in the match. I’m very happy to be helping the team in some way. We’re getting better and better. Once again, I’m very happy with the victory.
I hope I can play some great games in pre-season and throughout the season ahead. I’m very happy with the opportunity the coach is giving me. I’m getting better and better, feeling better and better on the field.
“Once again, I hope I can help the team in some way. I’m very happy for the opportunity.”
The 19-year-old is used to playing in midfield or on the wing; however, he has been given a new role under Potter this summer. He has been playing as a left-wing back, sharing the minutes with new signing El Hadji Malick Diouf.
“For me, it’s a position I like. Wherever the coach wants me to play, I’ll be available. Playing the position I did, I played a bit more in the five-man line there. So, for me, there’s no such thing as the position I want to fill. I want to be helping the team in some way and I’m very happy about the game.”
