Former West Ham right-back Vladimir Coufal is joining Bundesliga side Hoffenheim on a free transfer this week.

Vladimir Coufal left West Ham this summer with the best wishes of everyone at the club after an excellent five years in claret and blue. The Czech International was still more than good enough to be part of the squad; however, Graham Potter decided it was time to move on with the intention of making the squad younger.

The defender who turns 33 later this month had a lot of interest. Reports suggest he could have stayed in the Premier League with Wolverhampton Wanderers, who are looking for a right-back after Nelson Semedo departed on a free transfer.

However, instead of staying in England, he is going to Germany and, according to Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, is ‘already in Germany’, ready to have his medical and sign a contract with the club.

Hoffenheim finished just a place above the relegation playoff zone in the German top flight and had one of the League’s leakiest defences. They conceded a whopping 68 goals in their 34 Bundesliga matches, a total that was worse than two of the sides that finished below them in the league table.

They will be hoping Coufal can show some of the defensive qualities he displayed during his spell in East London to help shore up the defence and have a much better season this time around. But for sure, every single West Ham fan wishes Coufal the best of luck in Germany.
