West Ham look set to commence a new chapter with an Academy graduate leading the charge.
Although there is an air of uncertainty and anxiety around the club at present, there is certainly also a sense of excitement of what could be, with much of that based around young midfielder Freddie Potts.
Fans have been eager to see Potts return this summer, following back-to-back season long loans – the last in the Championship with Portsmouth in the previous campaign.
The spells away from the club have been a resounding success for both the club and player, with Potts emerging this summer looking mature and ready to take on the level of quality and pressures that the Premier League brings – in fact he appears to relish it.
There will be a level of patience needed too of course, with Graham Potter mindful to not put pressure on the clearly talented midfielder. But it is hard to ignore the similarities in how Potts is conducting himself alongside our former Captain Declan Rice.
It’s not expected that Potts will reach the levels Rice has and that wouldn’t be fair on the player, however it’s also hard to dismiss that it is out of the realms from happening again.
