West Ham officially confirmed the signing of Danish shot stopper Mads Hermansen at the weekend.

The 25 year old was unveiled to the Hammers faithful before their friendly against Lille. Hermansen described joining the Hammers as an “easy decision” and admitted his excitement at returning to the Premier League following Leicester’s relegation last season.

Hermansen made his name at Danish side Brondby, progressing through the age groups before making his professional debut in 2020. The Dane’s move to the Hammers sees him reunited with a familiar face in lead goalkeeper coach Casper Ankergren, who he worked with at Brondby.

An excellent couple of seasons in his native Denmark saw Hermansen earn a move to England when he joined Leicester City in the summer of 2023. His debut season in the Championship saw him help Leicester concede the fewest goals in the league and earn promotion to the Premier League. The 25 year old’s performances for the Foxes saw him named in the Championship Team of the Season.

Having played for Denmark at youth level, Hermansen sees his move to West Ham as the right next step in earning his first senior cap for his national team.

The Danish shot stopper sat down with the club’s media team to discuss his move to East London. Despite plenty of interest in him this summer, Hermansen felt like West Ham was the right fit: “I felt a long time ago that West Ham and I could be a good match. I can definitely see myself playing in the way the team wants to, so it felt natural all the way, so West Ham was a pretty easy choice.” said the Hammers latest signing.

Returning to the top flight, Hermansen is eager to once again test himself against the very best: “The Premier League is special to be in. I had a year last year, obviously a bit difficult with Leicester, but I can’t wait to play and stay in the Premier League.”

Looking ahead to life in claret and blue, the Dane had a clear message to share with Hammers fans: “My message to the Claret and Blue army is that I will always do my best, I will always push myself, and I just look forward to meeting everyone, and I will do everything I can to help the Club achieve its goals.”
