Summer signing Ffion Morgan spoke with pride about becoming a part of West Ham Women’s squad following the Hammers 1-0 pre season win against Czech side Sparta Prague at the weekend.

In her first outing as a West Ham player, Morgan was brought on as a first half substitute shortly after Riko Ueki had given the Hammers the lead with what ended up being the game’s only goal.

After her introduction, the Wales international wasted little time in making her presence felt and showing what she can do. Using her pace to stretch Sparta’s defence, Morgan looked a real danger early on in the second half.

The forward was unlucky not to grab an assist. A driving run with the ball into the box saw Morgan skip past a defender and play a low inviting ball across goal. A defensive interception prevented the ball from reaching Soraya Walsh or Shekeira Martinez who were both positioned to apply the finishing touch.

The game against Sparta was a glimpse into what the 25 year old can bring to this West Ham team. Speaking to the Club’s media team post match, Morgan expressed her satisfaction at the teams performance particularly given the rather humid conditions.

“They’re a Champions League team, they’re raring to go, so it was a good physical test in the heat as well. We held our own and came out with a win, so we’re really happy.” said Morgan.

Recalling her introduction, Morgan discussed how the focus from manager Rehanne Skinner was on simply making an impact. “It was a quick change, but (Rehanne said to) just go on, do what I can, and then we came off at half time and it was more structured then. I was really happy to get on and show what I could do.”

Having only joined West Ham at the end of July, Morgan has already settled comfortably into the West Ham squad. The Wales international was full of praise for the welcoming environment created by her fellow teammates and believes her smooth transition to life in East London can help her make a positive start to the season when the new WSL campaign gets underway.

“I’ve already settled in quickly and that’s thanks to the girls making me feel welcome – that’s on and off the pitch. They’re great and I’m sure that will filter onto the pitch as well,” she told the club’s Official Website.
