West Ham legend Michail Antonio has left the club without the perfect goodbye he deserved.

Just over a week after the club officially announced Michail Antonio will leave the club after ten years, there has been a lot of movement. The 35-year-old has done some controversial interviews and he already has a new gig.

The Jamaica International has signed a deal to become a pundit for TNT Sports for the 25/26 season, joining Gareth Bale in a refreshed punditry lineup. However, it’s unclear what sort of role he will have or what games he will cover, as he still wants to play football.

He has reportedly received offers from England and abroad, but he is yet to sign for a club. However, that hasn’t kept him out of the limelight. He has been in the headlines lately with what he’s said on podcasts and interviews.

He said Premier League clubs treat players like ‘meat’ these days, suggesting they have no loyalty, so therefore he defended Alexander Isak for forcing his way out of Newcastle. Some people reading into this believe he was having a slight dig at the Hammers for letting him go so easily after 10 years of service.

As much as it was the right decision to let our Premier League top scorer go, almost every West Ham and I believe he deserves a better goodbye, but it wasn’t to be. Obviously Antonio didn’t play in the second half of the season, so he couldn’t get a fairytale ending.

However, it would have been nice to have known the final decision about his future sooner so the fans could have given him a real goodbye at the London Stadium with Aaron Cresswell and Lukasz Fabianski.

The club are set to invite him back at some point this season, most likely before one of our Premier League fixtures, for the fans to say their thanks and goodbyes to who is certainly a modern day club legend.
