Argentine midfielder Guido Rodriguez is expected to leave West Ham before the transfer window closes this summer.
The Hammers have been trying to offload Guido Rodriguez all summer, and somehow he managed to start the first game of the Premier League season. And to be fair to him, he was probably our only good performer on the day, however, he is still expected to leave the club.
A move to Saudi Arabia looked likely with rumours of a £6.5m offer coming in, however, we haven’t heard much about it since. If we can get this deal over the line it would be an excellent deal considering we signed him for free and he really hasn’t performed, we will also get his huge wages off the books.
However, if that move doesn’t come to fruition, he also has interest from North and South America. W Deportes claim that Liga MX sides Tigres and Guido’s former club Club America are also interested in signing the World Cup winner. Guido Rodriguez made 123 appearances for Club America before making the move to Spain to sign for Real Betis in 2020.
The problem for Tigres and Club America is the finances, they won’t be able to afford to match the offer that’s reportedly been made by an unnamed Saudi club, not only that, they also won’t be able to afford his current wages, let alone what will be on offer to him to move to Saudi Arabia.
However, it remains unclear whether Guido Rodriguez would be up for a move to the Middle East. Hammers News are reporting that the 31-year-old would much prefer to stay in Europe and move back to Real Betis.
Diario de Sevilla report that Rodriguez is ‘in the pipeline but very much in the background’. He would have to accept a ‘very, very considerable wage cut’ to make a homecoming happen, while Betis appear to be shifting their focus towards Fernando Bernal of Fluminense instead.
