West Ham striker Niclas Füllkrug asks West Ham fans for support, as the Hammers look to bounce back against Chelsea.

The Hammers suffered a humbling 3-0 defeat to Sunderland on the opening day after an absolute capitulation in the second half, the team and Graham Potter are looking to put that right this evening as World Champions Chelsea travel to East London.

“The opponent isn’t that important to me, to be honest” said Füllkrug. “For me, it’s more about it being a home game, which we want to win and where we want to show a reaction.

“We have to be critical with ourselves after the Sunderland game last week. Of course, it wasn’t easy, and it was a very loud and intense atmosphere, but we have to do better, and now we have to respond in the right way.

“It wasn’t easy for anyone at the Club, including the fans, and I think we’re going to need them on Friday. I think they can help us by generating a really good atmosphere and giving Chelsea problems to deal with. It’s certainly going to be a great occasion, and with the supporters’ help, I believe that as a team we can go and get the job done.”

The London Stadium has become known for it’s lack of atmosphere, but an important game against Chelsea is normally the sort of game it can get out. However, Hammers fans aren’t in the highest of spirits at the moment due to the transfer window and Saturday’s defeat, so it could be hard to generate an atmosphere.

The team need to give the fans something to shout about from the start to get the atmosphere going, so if we start on the front foot and create a good chance early, Füllkrug may get his wish.
