Summer signing Callum Wilson has maintained West Ham must remain united following their 5-1 thrashing at home to Chelsea, the forward has insisted there’s enough quality in the squad to bounce back quickly.

Lucas Paqueta gave the Hammers a dream start with a long range screamer, but Enzo Maresca’s side quickly took control of the match, slicing through the spine of the Hammers team with ease and converting their chances without getting out of first gear. West Ham are now winless in their opening two Premier League fixtures, scoring just one goal and conceding eight.

Wilson was brought on for German international Niclas Fullkrug, in what was his home debut. However, the former Newcastle and Bournemouth man was unable to help the Hammers find a way back into the game.

The 33 year old admitted the result was a difficult one to take but maintained the importance of the Hammers squad keeping belief in their ability to turn things around. “It was a tough night against a top team.” said Wilson, adding: “We started the game really well and went in front, but when the disallowed goal happened it probably took the wind out of our sails. From there it was an uphill battle and it just wasn’t our night.”

Wilson views West Ham’s Carabao Cup tie against Wolves as an immediate chance to reset. “We’ve got a cup game coming up where we can get a result and build some momentum.”

The Hammers forward stressed the need for everyone to remain unified with plenty of football still to be played: “I’ve had seasons before where wins haven’t come until November and everything’s turned out fine. It’s still early days – what matters now is sticking together.”

He also spoke positively of the support he’s been shown since making the move to East London. “It’s a massive Club and a great opportunity for me. There’s obviously faith from the people at the top, and hopefully I can show the fans and repay the fans for what I’m about.”
