West Ham’s biggest downfall isn’t any position on the pitch.
A painfully slow midfield, defenders who are scared to head the ball, goalkeepers that can’t make a save, it would be a lie to say West Ham don’t need to improve all over the pitch.
However, if you look at it individually, the players aren’t individually bad. They might not compliment each other very well, nor the system Potter plays, but in the right side most of them could be good players.
If West Ham signed the right individuals, I could see the problems being mostly resolved with just a couple of signings. While they also need to address some of the mentioned concerns, what above all else they need to be is leaders.
Without those players who will rip into their own teammates (when necessary), those who will put absolutely every on the line, ones who others can look to for guidance, there’s no glue in the team.
While I want to be positive about the potential signings, I do fear that they may not provide the instant boost that they need to unless one of them can establish themselves as a leader of the pack.
