Kyle Walker-Peters was excellent as West Ham ramped to a surprising 3-0 away win at Nottingham Forest on Sunday.
Kyle Walker-Peter’s replacing Aaron Wan-Bissaka in a Premier League starting lineup turned a lot of heads.
However, after AWB’s torrid performance against Chelsea at the London Stadium, it was probably a wise decision from Graham Potter, and that was proven right.
Walker-Peters provided a defensive stability and calmness in the defence that we have lacked in the League this season. On too many occasions in the opening two fixtures of the season, the opposing teams were getting down our right side too easy. Whether it was Simon Adingra or Pedro Neto, they were getting in-behind AWB too easily.
Against Forest, Kyle Walker-Peters dealt with Callum Hudson-Odoi expertly. The former Chelsea winger has bags of talent, he’s able to go both on the outside and the inside of the defender and KWP managed to handle him with ease.
Not only was he good defensively, he also contributed going forward. He didn’t manage an assist like he did against Wolves midweek, however, his calmness on the ball when under pressure really helped us to start attacks. This was a massive bonus because it’s something we’ve really struggled with at the start of this season.
Walker-Peters will now be a guaranteed starter for the Hammers against his former club Spurs after the International break. And with Diouf playing so well on the other side. AWB will have to start on the bench yet again.
