Spirits are high as West Ham beat Nottingham Forest 3-0 at the City Ground, but can they turn a corner under Graham Potter?

The Hammers squad was full of good vibes coming into the season, a summer of team bonding and positive pre-season looked like it was going to be a much improved season in East London this time out.

However, after three defeats with eleven goals conceded in our opening three matches the feel-good factor at the club was completely drained. The fans have been going after the board and calling for Potter to be sacked.

But this weekend has maybe stopped fans from completely dreading the rest of the campaign. Graham Potter changed his formation from the failing 5-3-2, to a more known formation to our current crop of players in a 4-2-3-1.

This allowed us to close the gaps we were consistently getting exploited in during the opening three matches, it allowed Bowen to return to his best position and it eased the pressure on the central midfield, which as probably been our biggest problem so far in 25/26.

Potter is known for changing his formation depending on the opponent, however, it was clear that he wanted to master the 5-2-3 formation with the Hammers, he stuck with it all pre-season as well as the opening three matches. However, if he continued to persist with it much longer, he would have been out of a job sooner rather than later.

I’m not 100% sure that Potter expected the formation change to be that affective that soon, but it was and it looked so much better. The gaffer and the coaching staff now have two weeks before we face Tottenham to master this new system as the fight to save his job continues.

Hopefully Potter can get one or two more of his own players in before today’s 5pm deadline, with the International break coming up it will be the perfect time to bed in a new player, with just under two weeks to get them prepared.

The positivity from the players and the fans has risen right back up after this win, with smiles all round during the match and after the full-time whistle. It was the perfect result and now Potter has an excellent opportunity to turn a corner with West Ham, with twelve days to prepare for Spurs at home, one of the most important matches of the season, another win there and the fans will well and truly be on the Graham Potter train.
