Everton manager David Moyes took the stand to defend former player Lucas Paqueta as he was victorious in his FA spot-fixing trial.
Lucas Paqueta was charged with four counts of spot-fixing, he was accused of deliberately getting yellow carded in four separate Premier League matches to influence betting markets.
We have known for a while that Moyes defended Paqueta during the trial. However, the transcript of the hearing was released yesterday, 3rd September, and it gave an interesting view into what Moyes felt about the accusations against his former star.
The Scotsman said: “I have re-watched the yellow card incidents closely and, based on my own footballing experience and knowledge of [the Player], consider them to be entirely within the normal range of actions for this player.
“The word I would use to describe [the Player’s] playing style is maverick… he plays in a high risk, high reward way and he does, therefore, have a tendency to give the ball away.
“Defensively, [the Player] does not have quite the same level of ability. However, he is a physical specimen and would work extremely hard in defence… he would work hard to get it back, but sometimes he could make a poor choice or be a little rash.”
If you didn’t already think David Moyes OBE was a West Ham legend after winning the Conference League, he certainly is now after he’s just backed one of our most important players in a court of law when he’s not even our manager anymore.
