With West Ham Women’s WSL season set to begin this weekend, Rehanne Skinner’s side have added to their midfield options with the deadline day arrival of Hungary international Anna Csiki on a season long loan from London rivals Tottenham Hotspur.
The 25 year old adds plenty of experience to the West Ham squad, having earned 50 caps for her national team. Csiki made the switch to the WSL last summer when she signed for Spurs, joining from Swedish side BK Hacken FF. During her four seasons in Sweden, where she represented her side on the biggest stage in club football, the UEFA Women’s Champions League.
West Ham’s newest recruit made 13 appearances in all competitions for Tottenham last season. In doing so, she became the first ever Hungarian to play in the WSL, an honour the 25 year old admitted she takes immense pride in.
Speaking after her move to West Ham was officially announced, Csiki expressed her excitement at joining the Club and her belief the move was the right next step in her career. “I’ve heard a lot of good things about the Club. I had a great chat with Rehanne and she explained her vision for the team, and I knew straight away that this would be the right move for me.”
Discussing her playing style and what she can bring to this current West Ham side, the Hungarian international added: “I’m a left footed, offensive player that likes to have the ball at my feet. I’m creative and try to help the team as much as I can through scoring goals and making assists.”
For West Ham manager Rehanne Skinner, adding depth in centre midfield was high on the agenda this summer, and she sees Csiki as a player who can make a real impact this season.
“Anna has a wealth of experience playing in the WSL, the Champions League and on the international stage for Hungary, and I have no doubt that her experience and creativity will be a real asset to the team moving forwards,” said Skinner.
