Callum Wilson may not be the long-term answer, but he may be exactly what West Ham need this season.

West Ham’s striker curse seems to be becoming common knowledge across the footballing world. It feels like no matter who the Hammers stick up top, they’re never going to be able to produce in claret and blue.

However, while it was only a glimpse, Callum Wilson’s cameo against Nottingham Forest displayed things that we’ve not seen from a striker in a long time.

The movement for his goal alone was absolutely unbelievable, he gave the defender absolutely no chance of tracking his run which allowed him to get on the end of Diouf’s cross.

It’s the sort of movement that elite strikers display, and with his wage massively relying on games played and goals scored, his financial motivation will be through the roof.

If he can keep himself fit and play like that every week, Wilson could be a vital player this season. He could serve as the perfect stop gap in between a Summer where funds were limited, and one where they can hopefully spend big to finally find their long term Antonio replacement.

He’s doing rather well to win fans over so far, but he must keep it up if he is truly to be forgiven by the East London faithful.
