West Ham’s U21 side produced a dominant display in the EFL trophy on Tuesday, sealing a commanding 5-1 victory at Stadium MK, a result that matches their biggest win in the competition.

The win against MK Dons bettered the young Hammers 4-0 wins against both Cheltenham and Colchester last season.

Tuesday’s meeting between the two sides saw the return of veteran goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski, donning the claret and blue again and gaining his first minutes since rejoining the club on a one year contract.

Freddie Potts, George Earthy and Callum Marshall all started and played their parts in an impressive West Ham performance.

Preston Fearon struck twice in the first half, his first goals at U21 level, both goals came thanks to brilliant build up play from Mohamadou Kante. A cross from Emeka Adiele forced an own goal from MK Dons skipper Laurence Maguire, giving the Hammers a three goal advantage going into half time.

Aaron Collins pulled one back for the home side shortly after the restart, before Callum Marshall hit back immediately thanks to Adiele’s cut back. The Northern Irish international bagged his second of the game in added time to round off a comfortable night’s work for the U21’s.

After the game, lead coach Mark Robson was full of praise for his side, when speaking to the clubs Official Website: “The lads were really on it tonight. We played some excellent football and I thought we looked a really good outfit.”

The U21’s boss felt the sides togetherness was clear to see: “In general, we clicked. We gelled. Some of our goals were top drawer and the football throughout was really pleasing.”
