Graham Potter says it’s not the right time for West Ham to integrate youngsters.

Most West Ham fans would agree that the club actually had a rather positive preseason. While it wasn’t perfect, there was definitely more confidence compared to the start of the Summer.

One of the biggest positives was the performances of certain youngsters, particularly Freddie Potts, who did an excellent job of not looking out of place and was arguably the Hammers best midfielder.

However, since the season’s started, he’s not had any sort of chance to prove himself in the Premier League. While this has annoyed some supporters, current manager Graham Potter claims this is not without its reason.

“Freddie has had a really positive journey so far with the academy, with the loans,” Potter explained.

“It’s his first season back with us, in terms of the first-team. In pre-season, he did well. We know his qualities. He has to work hard with the team, the players, for this opportunity.”

“The Premier League is a competitive league. So of course we want to integrate players. l look at my previous record, [giving youth a chance] is something I am very proud of. But you have to do it at the right time for the club, the team, and the individual.”

For me, I have to say I disagree. I think the team is desperate for someone who has some energy and passion in that holding midfield spot. Freddie has clearly shown he’s deserving of a chance at the very least. I understand it’s not the most positive of times, but maybe someone like Potts can change the mood.
