Harry Redknapp has tipped his former club West Ham United to avoid relegation this season despite a rocky start.
The Hammers have had a turbulent start to the season, a poor start under Graham Potter with too many goals conceded, but now with Nuno at the helm, belief is on the up.
However, Harry Redknapp, who made 175 appearances as a player for the Hammers and managed for seven years isn’t getting too carried away about the team, despite the positivity about Nuno’s hire.
Talking to GiveMeSport, Redknapp believes it’s going to be a difficult and long season ahead. “West Ham won’t get relegated, but it’s going to be a tough season for them,” Redknapp said. “Even this early on, I predict it will be bottom six or seven this season. They’ll be OK this season. I don’t see them going down.”
However, the 77-year-old knows the real problems at the club are off the pitch. The fans aren’t happy with the ownership or the performances on the pitch, and with a protest last weekend and a boycott planned for after the International break could lead to things getting toxic in East London.
“They always seem to be in ‘crisis’ at the moment. They had five managers in the first 90 or so years of their existence, and now they are getting through them so quickly. They’re not alone, of course, in this day and age. But West Ham used to have an air of stability about the place.”
As much as Hammers fans don’t like to agree with Redknapp, he’s not wrong here at all. The club isn’t in a great place at all at the moment, we’ve spent so much money and were under threat of relegation, while we continue to hire the wrong managers.
Everyone at the club is hoping Nuno is the right man to take us forward and the early signs are promising. However, we all know that with Nuno it’s unlikely he’s going to be here long term, so we might just fall back into the same managerial merry-go-round.
