After making his debut at the Emirates on Saturday, Callum Marshall has the perfect opportunity to become West Ham’s starting striker.

While its only been a few training sessions and two games since Nuno has taken over, Fullkrug has been poor and Wilson has been benched, so the striker position is one of weakness for the Hammers.

This gives the perfect opportunity for Northern Ireland Callum Marshall to stake his claim, he is clearly a player Nuno rates from what he’s seen of him so far.

He’s been in and around the first-team under the three previous managers but never got off the bench, so the fact Nuno has played him already says a lot.

He obviously didn’t have a big impact against Arsenal, but to be honest, I don’t think anyone expected him to. Throwing him in against the League’s best defence, and being pretty much alone up there against William Saliba and Gabriel.

Fullkrug wasn’t selected by Julian Nagelsmann for Germany’s squad for the October internationals, so he will be in training over the break. This likely means he will get another chance from the start against Brentford as they will be able to work on a plan with him up front all week.

However, if Fullkrug continues to play poorly, Callum Marshall is waiting to take his spot in the team and he will do all he can to make his dream of being a Premier League striker a reality. And with no transfer window for three more months he could grab that opportunity with both hands.

He offers something that no West Ham striker has for a while, pace. This could be crucial for Nuno’s counterattacking system if he can’t get Fullkrug or Wilson to work in a similar way Chris Wood did at Nottingham Forest.
