Morocco and former West Ham United defender Nayef Aguerd was the victim of an attack in France this week, as per Daily Mail

The Moroccan central defender joined Liege 1 giants Marseille for a fee of around £20m this summer after a disappointing spell in East London.

He has had an excellent start to life in France, playing five matches in all competitions, even scoring a goal as they sit top of the league. The 29-year-old’s goal came in a 1-0 win over PSG, where he was too was named player of the match.

However, the Morocco international’s perfect start to life in the South of France has had its first negative, after a fan attempted to ‘slap’ him. Reports in France suggest the attacker asked Aguerd for a selfie before turning violent.

On Instagram, Aguerd said: “I want to reassure everyone following the information that has been circulating for the last few fours that I was indeed assaulted at Marignane airport while waiting for my flight to join the Moroccan national team.

“Fortunately it was a scare more than anything else and everything was quickly resolved thanks to the intervention of security personnel and law enforcement.”
