After Callum Marshall made his West Ham debut against Arsenal, West Ham fans are keen to know, will he give more youngsters a first-team chance?
It’s an exciting time to be a young player at West Ham United at the moment with both Freddie Potts and Callum Marshall being given chances under the new manager.
The clubs U21 coaches have just been given full-time roles as part of Nuno Espirito Santo’s coaching team and with their knowledge of the youngsters, they are in with a much better shot at getting a chance.
There are a lot of players in the Hammers youth sides have impressed so far this season – Preston Fearon, Mohamadou Kante, Josh Landers and Airidas Golambeckis just to name a few.
West Ham have a lot of talent in the academy, and some of the first-team staff haven’t been pulling their weight for a while now, even before Nuno.
Mark Robson and Steve Potts have worked with and succeeded with a lot of these young players and will obviously speaking highly of them to Nuno, so who knows, maybe we wills players like Guido Rodriguez and Andy Irving left out for younger and hungrier players, like Fearon and Kante.
However, Nuno isn’t usually known for being a manager to throe in the young players, he is a manager that only uses them when they know they’re good enough. So don’t expect everyone to get a chance.
Bu there is definitely a route to the first-team for some of these players under the current regime, which wasn’t something you could say when Graham Potter was in charge of the club.
