Nuno’s decision to promote academy coaches is exactly what West Ham needs.

The disconnect between fans and the team is the worst it’s ever been at West Ham. There’s very few players who truly give the impression that they get what it means to wear the shirt. Nuno’s use of academy prospects is a massive step towards fixing that though.

Thankfully, it’s not just a reliance on the youth to bring through that East London spirit, as the recent promotion of youth coaches to senior coaches will go a long way.

Many of them are life long West Ham fans or ex players, and those who aren’t are much more likely to be committed to the club.

On top of this, it should mean that even more of the talented youngsters get an opportunity to shine in the coming months, the way both Potts and Marshall have since the Portuguese manager arrived at the club.
