West Ham United made the intriguing decision yesterday to officially recall Fin Herrick from his loan at Boreham Wood to join up with the club’s first team squad!
The 19-year-old made 10 appearances for the National League side, keeping a remarkable 7 clean sheets and conceding just 5 goals in the other 3 games.
The rather shocking decision has left fans in utter confusion, seeing as Nuno already has Hermansen, Areola and Fabianski at his disposal, so to recall a loan player who’s receiving consistent game time and doing well at Boreham Wood can only make you question why he’s been called up?
Several youth players have recently gained attention. Mohamadou Kante has recently signed a new deal up until 2031, Josh Landers has received a new deal until 2028 and Earthy, returning from injury, is also building up to join the first team in training.
It appears that Nuno is attempting to build up the youth academies’ first team experience and give them a lot of training with the squad to see how they can compete amongst the rest.
Analysing the current trajectory Nuno is going at with his decisions with the youth, you can imagine it’s only a matter of time before at least one or two will break into the matchday squad or the starting squad.
Considering the club took the action to go out and recall Fin Herrick, I’d presume that he would be quite high up the pecking order to be involved. Or maybe the club has another loan lined up for the goalkeeper at a higher level than the National League.
