West Ham United have revisited the idea of signing Celta Vigo and Spain star Oscar Mingueza, according to reports.
The Spanish fullback/centre-back signed for Celta Vigo in 2022 on a free transfer from Barcelona and has since been excelling in La Liga after being a squad player for the Blaugrana.
The 26-year-old now only has one year left on his contract, which has triggered West Ham to take further interest, seeing as clubs will now essentially have the ability to get him on a cut price.
The initial value set on the defender was around £17 million, but seeing as an entire year has passed, that’s been significantly cut down as Mingueza has no desire to renew and at this moment in time is set to leave come the end of the year.
One of the many reasons as to why the Hammers may have taken interest in him is due to the fact that the Spaniard isn’t just your standard fullback, he can play a variety of other positions, spanning from central defence to wingback.
His versatility is a very attractive aspect of the player, considering the injuries that the Hammers are currently suffering, as well as the general quality in the squad; he could be a serious benefit to the side.
As well as the versatility, Mingueza also reached 10 G/A in the 2023/24 campaign playing wingback, whilst also having an 85% passing completion rate in the 2024-25 season, which placed him amongst the very best within La Liga.
If we could conclude this signing on a cut-price deal then this could turn out to be an immense bit of business, the deal could be hard to conclude seeing as Barcelona retain a 50% sell-on-clause which means Celta Vigo will attempt to squeeze out every Euro they can, but seeing as his contract is almost up, the negoatiating clubs will have the upper hand.
