West Ham boss Rehanne Skinner has expressed her excitement at the Hammers first home game in more than a month as they return to the Chigwell Construction Stadium to face Leicester on Sunday.

The Hammers will be looking to secure their first WSL win of the campaign this weekend. Rehanne Skinner’s side will be hoping to build on their last home match, a 2-1 victory over Brighton in the League Cup, as they look to carry some momentum into their league season.

The visitors are now led by former Hammers assistant Rick Passmoor, who has made Leicester a difficult side to break down. Ahead of the meeting between the two sides, speaking to the media, Skinner reflected on the encouraging elements from the narrow defeat against Manchester City. She also emphasised a need for greater sharpness in front of goal and praised her squad’s desire to improve.

Despite the result, Skinner believes the Hammers produced their strongest display of the season last time out against Manchester City, both in and out of possession. “Off and on the ball, it’s probably our best performance this season. We limited them to one shot on target, which is huge against a team that’s got the attacking threat that they have.” said the Hammers boss to the club’s Official Website.

Skinner wants her players to build on the positives from last weekend as they search for a breakthrough at home to kick start their season and record their first points of the campaign.

“It’s great that we’re at home again. Being back in front of our fans after a really good performance at the weekend, the players have got a really good belief in the game and in themselves going into this weekend. I think it puts us in a positive position going into the weekend to try and make life as difficult for them (Leicester) as we can. We want to make sure we get some points this weekend.” said Skinner.

The overall message from the Hammers boss was clear, stick to the plan and the results will follow: “What matters is what we’re talking about, what everybody’s agreeing with internally, how we feel about what we’re doing, where we want to improve and where we want to keep using our strengths. That’s really what matters because those will be the things that get us the points.”
