West Ham United are interested in a swoop for Everton midfielder James Garner, according to a report from Ekrem Konur.
The former England U21 international’s contract expires in the summer and he is yet to sign a new one to remain at the Hill Dickinson Stadium. This has led to a lot of talk, and other Premier League clubs registering their interest in the midfielder.
A tweet by journalist Ekrem Konur on X suggests that West Ham are joined by Newcastle United and Brighton in the race for the Manchester United academy graduate.
With the midfielder available for free in the summer as things stand, if he doesn’t want to sign a new contract with the Toffee’s they may look to sell in January. That would mean he would be available for a cut-price fee.
The 24-year-old has a market value of £19m, the fact his contract is up could mean we could get him for around the £20m mark this winter. He would certainly be a great option for the Hammers. Since Moyes returned to the Merseyside club, Garner his most reliable players, mainly due to his versatility, he ha splayed well in both midfield and at full-back.
This would be greatly appreciated by Nuno Espirito Santo, who will be losing both of his starting full-backs El Hadji Malick Diouf and Aaron Wan-Bissaka during AFCON. We are also in desperate need of another central midfielder. If one of Potts, Fernandes and Paqueta gets injured, the quality of our midfield will fall off a cliff.
Interestingly, our very own ExWHUEmployee has recently reported David Moyes is interested in a reunion with James Ward-Prowse at Everton. Despite signing him for £40m just a couple of years ago, he’s been completely frozen our, so I don’t expect we will get much more than £10m for the 32-year-old.
So wo knows, maybe a James Garner = James Ward-Prowse swap deal could be on the cards…
