West Ham bottled a 2-0 lead to draw 2-2 away from home against Bournemouth, but there is still something to be proud of.
After a first half brace from Callum Wilson, Hammers fans were excited for the second half.
However, Nuno clearly wasn’t. Within 8 minutes of the second half starting, the manager made subs that completely drained us of all attacking threat.
This lead to a complete bombardment of our goal, 21 shots in the second half alone.
It was a shocking display from the Hammers in that second period. Not much could’ve been done about the first, Kilman was probably right to concede the penalty, but bad defending before that caused the goal.
The second was an excellent ball into Unal by Senesi, but it really should’ve been prevented considering the whole team was defending.
But after that, we did really well to hold onto the draw, both the defenders and goalkeeper deserve praise for the final ten minutes plus six added.
The whole team worked together to deal with what was an absolute onslaught to say the least. They looked so dangerous, we were like a boxer on the ropes for about 40 minutes, to only concede two this afternoon was actually really impressive.
It might feel more impressive because it’s such an improvement. If that happened to us under Potter or the earlier days of Nuno I think we would have ended up conceding six or seven.
The players got really stuck in, in that final fifteen minutes or so. Before, those players wouldn’t have fought for the badge in this scenario or weather conditions, so it was good to see the improvement.
Todibo and Kilman continued to look so much better today. Some blame could be put on the latter for goals conceded, but still, he’s playing a lot better than he was a few weeks ago.
Alphonse Areola was the biggest shining light for the Hammers today, he was absolutely immense between the sticks.
Overall, obviously it was really disappointing we didn’t secure the win after starting so well. But now reflecting on it, with the chances and opportunities they had and fixture it was, a point is a good result.
