Nuno is the manager to turn things around for West Ham, but he needs to change his ways urgently.
Nuno’s man management, his press conference, his tactical knowledge, his passion are things we’ve not seen from a West Ham manager for quite a while.
The Hammers have lost just 1 of their last 6 matches, picking up results from an incredibly tough run of fixtures. While some are frustrated that the club still sit in the bottom 3, thanks to some good form from Leeds, it’s concerning to think about where they would be if Potter was still in charge.
Not only has Nuno been bringing home points regularly, he’s massively turned around the form of some players. Todibo in particular looked like a lost cause last year, but the manager has turned him not only into a solid player, but one who looks worth the roughly £40 million that the club paid for him.
Frustratingly, Nuno has one massive flaw, and it’s one that haunted Moyes during his time at the club. Every single time West Ham have a lead with 20-30 minutes remaining he sets up shop and it costs us nearly every time.
For example, the Brighton game. That second-half was all West Ham until Bowen’s goal, but as soon as that went in the tactics changed and that pressure was piling on for almost half of the second 45’. Brighton looked completely out of it, and chances are a second goal could’ve come West Ham’s way if they continued.
Again, this isn’t an isolated incident, the same sort of thing happened when the Irons were 2-0 up at Bournemouth.
When you’re in a relegation battle, it’s understandable being desperate to preserve a lead, but being this overly cautious is hurting West Ham’s chances of survival.
