West Ham United’s incredible support is something that doesn’t go unnoticed by the media and fans of other clubs and it has been highlighted again this week.

The Hammers U21’s side faced Colchester United in the knockout stages of the EFL Trophy on Tuesday, the most impressive thing about the game wasn’t the fact we were the only academy side left in the tournament or we won the game against a senior team. The most impressive thing was the number of fans we brought to the game.

There were reportedly 1600 Irons fans in attendance, making up just under half the full attendance. Yes, Colchester is heavily West Ham supported area, but still, to bring that many fans out on a cold Tuesday night to watch the youth team is nothing short of incredible.

This reminds me of when we took a massive 7,000 fans to the Emirates Stadium for the FA Youth Cup final a couple of years ago, that was absolutely phenomenal. It shows just how committed and passionate West Ham fans are.

Unlike watching the first team most of the time, the fans were rewarded win an excellent performance. A very evenly contested ended 1-0 to the young Hammers thanks to an early strike from George Earthy and a later penalty save from Finlay Herrick who performed admirably throughout the match.

Ezra Mayers also had a great performance on the night which is excited because he soon could be in-line for a first team start when Malick Diouf and Aaron Wan-Bissaka leave for AFCON, after he made is debut against Brighton on Sunday.
