With the transfer window opening in just 20 days’ time, it begs the question of whether the club should begin offering for players sooner rather than later.

‘Be careful what you wish for’ tends to be the motto of the majority of West Ham transfer windows, seeing as they usually end the same. If Hammers fans peel their minds back to last January, we got a new manager in Graham Potter, and he was backed through a sole loan signing of Evan Ferguson, amongst a squad that had the capability to be great, but Potter wasn’t able to get the ability out of them.

In a dire situation, he wasn’t backed, will it be the same this window? It’s a tough one to answer, but given how serious our situation is at the moment, it would be incredibly difficult to fathom reasons as for why Nuno wouldn’t be backed in the winter window, given how well he’s doing without a window, and just a handful of small editions could be enough to get us over the line or break into the midtable barrier.

We’ve had a handful of exit rumours for Nichlas Fullkrug, and from what it seems, it appears that the club are prepared to make numerous signings in different positions, one being a forward, defender and midfielder. I do think given how the past month or so has gone, that the midfielder will be considered out of the equation, unless it was to target a wider midfield player. A forward will be used to replace Fullkrug, like-for-like, and likely another wide defender, given that Scarles is injured and a backup should be signed.

Three suspected signings, a handful of links another nothing to show for it. Other clubs such as Aston Villa have already begun their transfer window business and are planning what Emery needs in order to return back to the Champions League. Unfortunately, it doesn’t appear that we possess the same mentality as them and will likely conduct our business late, as we so often do.

It’s good to see that players are being spoken about, but these are only rumours, in-terms of progression, nothing is being spoken about which isn’t ideal for a club that’s currently being involved in a relegation fight, but it’s an unknown, there’s still the strong chance that transfers will be made much sooner rather than later, but it’s been half a decade since we’ve even made more than one signing in January, let alone the suspected 3!
