West Ham manager Nuno Espírito Santo has made two changes from the team that drew 1-1 against Brighton, to face Aston Villa this afternoon.
To Hammers fans relief, the Portuguese manager had brought Soungoutou Magassa and Freddie Potts back into the lineup to replace Guido Rodriguez and Max Kilman, therefore will be reverting back to a back 4.
Areola – AWB – Mavropanos -Todibo – Diouf – Potts – Magassa – Summerville – Fernandes – Bowen – Paquetá.
This means Summerville will almost certainly be on the left, but the other three is where it gets confusing.
If I had to guess, Bowen would be in his preferred right wing position which Matheus Fernandes in the 10 and Paquetá as the striker. This would be my preferred choice but, playing Lucas in the 10, Fernandes on the right and Bowen up top could be an option.
Or could it be Fernandes in midfield with Potts and Magassa, almost like a diamond with Lucas in the ten and Bowen and Summerville as split strikers, I guess we’ll find out at 2pm.
Whatever way they’re on the team on paper, it’s hopefully going to be an attacking that constantly interchanges and causes the Villa defence problems. However, the Villains are in exceptional form, the Hammers will have to be on top of their game to beat them.
It’s a shame we don’t have Callum Wilson this afternoon , I’m sure he would have started if he was fit enough, but maybe Nuno would rather him off the bench for the last 30 minutes or so than to risk him for the first hour.
It’s going to be a tough one today, but on an afternoon full of tributes for Billy Bonds, let’s hope the Claret and Blue army can back the boys to a good result back at London Stadium.
