Summerville was amongst many to struggle against Aston Villa in a damning defeat at the London Stadium.

Crysensio Summerville’s return to the first team squad saw many hope that he would further our attacking capabilities that we had, but for the past two matches, he’s struggled immensely to get himself involved within the game and, more often than not, ultimately sabotaged our chances that we could’ve had.

Persistently throughout the 90 minutes, Summerville more often than not found himself drifting into the centre of the pitch and would end up marking no one in Villa’s defence. For the first goal, his lack of judgement leaves an open man on the far right, which allowed Aston Villa to nick their fortunate first through Mavropanos’ demise. But this wouldn’t be the only time this would happen.

For the build-up to Villa’s second, Malick Diouf picks up the ball and looks for Summerville’s run, though the Dutchman has drifted into the central role, leaving Diouf with no options and it would result in Villa getting their second.

Summerville made a measly 14 passes throughout 89 minutes, creating just one chance, which, for a winger, is not an admirable look. This would also go hand in hand with his lack of finishing ability. It’s a shame that he manages to wriggle his way through the smallest of gaps, but his end product seems to persistently fall short.

Many have viewed him as a crucial player who’s key to have in the starting squad, but this evening’s performance certainly didn’t affirm those thoughts, and unfortunately, the lack of chance creation or clinical ability has cost us a point and now sees us 5 points behind Leeds in the event that they win.
