West Ham United are heading into what will be one of the most crucial transfer windows they’ve ever had, so it begs the question of what is required to get Nuno’s side out of the relegation zone.
It has been half a decade since West Ham has made more than one signing in the January window, but you get the feeling that the last record is about to change, given the circumstances that the club are in, currently sat 18th in the relegation zone and four points away from safety.
It is public knowledge that the club doesn’t have a large amount of funding, and will likely operate in the ‘one out, one in’ format for this transfer window, in which the first exit will be Nichlas Fulkrug and a replacement striker will be searched for throughout the January window, additonally, Ward-Prowse could also leave and Guilherme, whose exit could perhaps see Adama Traore being signed on a reduced price, due to his remaining time on his contract.
In all honesty, the club simply cannot afford to only make one signing in January as Nuno is currently managing to draw blood out of a stone which has kept us afloat, but there’s only so many games we can let that go on for, and a few additional signings could really provide us with some points that have been there for the taking.
The addition of a striker, winger and central defender is exactly what the Hammers need, and to make an early prediction based on rumours alluding to potential transfers, those you’d currently imagine to be Josh Sargent, Adama Traore and Charlie Cresswell.
All of these players could provide a much-needed benefit in our squad, especially given who they would be replacing… effectivelly we would be going from players who are left at home to either starting quality or super sub impact, which would not only boost us out of the relegation zone, but it would also allow us to hone in on the teams ahead.
It’s tricky to sit here and suggest that it is likely we will sign three first team quality players but it is whats required to secure us saftey and if it means we have to take a hit in the summer due to the activity we had in January then so be it, but our primary goal at this moment in time should be to back Nuno and provide him with what he needs to do well for the remainder of the season.
