Callum Wilson is, at the moment, the Hammers’ only available senior striker, yet he still isn’t able to secure a spot in the starting squad.
A new mystery has begun with the sudden disappearance of Callum Wilson and the Englishman. After finding some decent form, he found himself on the bench in games that required his skill set, and he wasn’t utilised to the fullest extent to which he could offer, which raises a handful of questions.
Across the last two fixtures, the likes of Lucas Paqueta, Summerville and Bowen have attempted to fulfil Wilson’s shoes, which hasn’t gone according to the script, and whilst I admire Nuno’s ambition to try new tactics and format new things, no other player at the club is going to be better at doing Wilson’s job than Wilson himself so why hasn’t that been learned?
It’s frustrating to see our hope and fight lost in games where we have a potential answer there, yet we seem to ignore its existence in moments.
Is it Nuno’s dislike…? Is it that we can’t currently afford his wage appearance bonus? There are many questions, but no answers will be provided.
It was clear at the beginning of Nuno’s tenure that he preferred Fulkrug over Wilson, due to the stature the German possessed in comparison to the Englishman, but injuries would force Wilson to come into play, in which he’s done well, but still hasn’t earned a spot, alarm bells are ringing!
Perhaps Nuno decided to embark on an adventure of change in which hopefully after his expedition against Manchester City, he might’ve finally concluded that Wilson has to start in order for us to create some chances, he gets into those forward gaps that most others don’t, and can more often find himself in the right place at the right time in comparison to everyone else and for the upcoming set of fixtures.
It’s absolutely vital that no more adventures are had. It is now time to go back to what we know can work and try to secure as many points as we possibly can.
The sudden disappearance is bizarre, but what is even more astonishing is that we haven’t seen Wilson return to the starting squad yet. Hopefully, next Saturday, that all changes for the better.
