West Ham United have been offered a chance to sign Ukrainian forward and ex-target Artem Dovbyk ahead of the January window.
This certainly isn’t the first time that West Ham have been linked with Dovbyk, with the strongest of links coming whilst at Girona before his eventual move to Roma, where the Italian side are now looking to part ways with the 28 year old.
One of the biggest issues as the face of the deal is that we’re being offered to sign a player, which is never necessarily a good indication, given the eagerness Roma have to get rid of him; no club ever wants someone good to leave!
Throughout this campaign, he’s managed 4 G/A across 14 games, but it’s still not been enough to solidify his position within the squad, which has also been further hindered by his ongoing Hamstring injury, which has now seen him miss a total of 7 games and counting.
He’s not a player who has been known for his injuries apart from his ACL injury back in 2018, but throughout his time at Roma, he’s now missed 15 matches for the Italian side, and across two seasons, that’s a cause for concern, especially for a side that is fighting relegation.
Despite Roma’s eagerness to remove him from the club, last season, throughout their glamorous campaign, the Ukrainian managed 21 G/A out of 45 matches, which is rather impressive for someone who missed a handful of games.
He’s has been known for his holdup play and dynamic runs throughout the field as a striker, which on paper, sounds exactly that something Nuno may admirers to have which is certainly a positive but once looking into the cracks.
To sign a forward who has an ongoing injury and to rely on him being the forward to drag us out the relegation zone would be very risky and would require much wishful thinking for it to work…
It appears on the face of it that this deal could be transpired towards the end of the window, given that no other player could be signed. Roma have also offered him to two other clubs, those being Everton and Sunderland, so there could be competition that the Hammers would have to fend off, if they were to pursue.
