West Ham United have been linked to a surge of players, some with Premier League experience and others without, but Welshman Brennan Johnson has been made available by Spurs in recent weeks.
Whilst some might’ve never initially thought business with Spurs was ever possible, the deal completed over the summer with Mohammed Kudus evidently reignited and proved that business could be conducted between the pair of rival clubs, which is also excentuated through the fact that it was Daniel Levy who swore never to do business with David Sullivan but since, Levy has now left Spurs so it’s now an unknown into what the relationship is like.
Since Thomas Frank arrived at Tottenham, he has been specific with the decisions he’s made and hasn’t been afraid to axe players from his squad. One player who has been subjected to a move is Brennan Johnson, and he is said to be available around the £40 million mark, though that fee for a move in January is typically classed as astronomical.
He’s a player who could fit in well within the squad for the Hammers, and fans won’t have to peel back their minds too far to remember that we were interested in him whilst he was at Nottingham Forest, so it is clearly a possibility, though the asking price is evidently going to pose as the biggest threat for the deal to implode.
He has been subjected to monumental amounts of abuse as a Spurs player throughout his time with them, primarily last season, when he was forced to take himself off social media a couple of times. Perhaps that could help influence a forced move away.
He could be a great player for us and help out in that poacher role he often finds himself in… one of his biggest aspects that fans have criticised is that he isn’t too effective on the pitch but his positioning is world class and he always finds himself in the right place at the right time, which is exactly something we need at West Ham, an individual to get the goals and help blast it in where no one else can, something that was attempted with the departed Fulkrug, but never came to life.
A simply great player, but a high asking price, and considering it’s Spurs, there won’t be too much wiggle room for the Hammers specifically, so for a deal to be concluded, it’ll be very unlikely… but Football’s had weirder stories!
