West Ham drew 2-2 with Brighton on Tuesday night in what was a deeply frustrating match, but as usual there were a couple of good performances, and one of those was from Kyle Walker- Peters.

The Hammers led twice at London Stadium but were pegged back by the visitors to earn just a point as their season continues to slump.

After fourteen games in charge, Nuno Espírito Santo has still not earned a clean sheet as West Ham boss, a stat that continues to haunt the Hammers this season.

West Ham centre-back Max Kilman was central to the Hammers defensive downfall, conceding a penalty, then obstructing goalkeeper Alphonse Areola for Brighton’s second.

Kilman’s poor performance was made even more infuriating by the fact that West Ham’s other defenders played quite well.

Ollie Scarles had a great game after last week’s nightmare against Fulham, Jean-Clair Todibo was his dependable self before coming off injured and substitute Konstantinos Mavropanos was solid when he came on, even making a vital goal-line clearance to preserve a point for his side.

However, in my opinion, the standout defender last night was Hammers right-back Kyle Walker-Peters, who had a superb outing against the Seagulls.

The Hammers’ No. 2, who is deputising for Aaron Wan-Bissaka during AFCON, was excellent on Tuesday night. He made some important tackles, read the game well and was superb when he got on the ball.

What was noticeable about the right-back’s game last night was how he retained possession under pressure. Even in the tightest of spaces, Walker-Peters seemed to always find a pass, which allowed the Hammers to launch attacks.

The Englishman also reads the game superbly and always seems to pick up good positions to win the ball back for his team.

In fact, Walker-Peters has looked solid throughout his West Ham career so far. Considering he was signed on a free from Southampton in the summer, he has proven tremendous value for money.

The performances of players like Walker-Peters show that this West Ham side should not be in a relegation battle.

However, despite some impressive individual performance across the last few games, the Hammers haven’t won any of their last eight games – and in many cases, they haven’t deserved to.

Still, seeing players like Walker-Peters performing at this level offers some encouragement. If he can maintain this form, he could prove a vital figure in West Ham’s fight for survival in the months ahead.
