Callum Wilson proved every single West Ham fan right last night with a proper strikers performance vs Brighton.
The veteran didn’t find the back of the net against the seagulls, but his classic striker play really helped West Ham in attack when he was on the pitch.
Wilson had far from a brilliant game, he didn’t score a goal or get an assist. He just kept the Brighton defenders occupied, he always gave them something to worry about. A huge improvement on having Lucas Paquetá up there.
He was always an option up there, he always wants to run in behind, run towards the goal where he knows he can make a difference. We didn’t always find him, in fact we only found him a couple of times in the hour he was on the pitch. But the point is it gives the defenders something to worry about something we’ve really missed.
The only worry about Wilson is it age, Nuno doesn’t seem to ever want to give him more than an hour. It’s understandable if he’s resting him for the upcoming games against Wolves and Forest because we have to win both of those and having Wilson start both of those games will really help us do that.
Hopefully Nuno has now learned we have to start with a striker. We have to start with Callum Wilson. We may bring another striker in next month, but as long as Wilson is our only option for the position, the 33-year-old has to start.
