West Ham manager Nuno Espírito Santo has to get a win tonight or he could find himself sacked for the second time this season.
He’s not going to get that win if he fields the same team that got humiliated by rock bottom of the table Wolverhampton Wanderers. So, he simply has to make some changes, and quite a few at that.
My ideal starting XI vs Forest: Areola; Walker-Peters, Mavropanos, Mayers, Scarles; Fernandes, Potts; Paquetá, Bowen; Castellanos, Pablo.
Hopefully Nuno opts for a 4-4-1-1 formation with Castellanos just off of fellow new man Pablo. Also, Mayers coming in from the start would be a risk, but he’s looked better than Igor in the short time we’ve seen them both, so I’d go with him. However, I can’t see Nuno opting for the youngster.
Players that cannot start this evening no matter the circumstances are: Maximilian Kilman, Soungoutou Magassa, Crysencio Summerville and Callum Wilson.
The reason for Kilman goes without saying, he’s been so poor pretty much since he’s arrived at the club, I get he’s a favourite of Nuno, he loved working with him at Wolves, but even he can’t possibly think it’s a good idea to start him today.
Obviously if Todibo is back he comes straight back in, and I really hope he is, but it’s unlikely, so even though I’d prefer Mayers. I think Nuno will opt for Igor, but anyone else there is better than Kilman, so let’s hope he does.
This might be a bit harsh on Magassa, he’s been a great signing for us. But that Wolves performance was unforgivable, he had had a part to play in all three of the goals conceded in the first half, even giving away a penalty.
Summerville and Wilson were just poor. But the main reason they shouldn’t play is because there are alternatives. Paquetá is expected to be back, so he regains his spot on the left. While, new signings Castellanos and Pablo are registered for the game. so at least one of them has to start the match.
Nuno Espírito Santo’s predicted XI vs Forest: Areola; Walker-Peters, Mavropanos, Igor. Scarles; Potts, Soucek, Fernandes; Paquetá, Pablo, Bowen.
If I had to predict what Nuno will do I’d go with his usual 4-3-3/4-2-3-1. I can see him bringing in Soucek and going with him and Potts as the two deeper midfielders with Fernandes playing as the most advanced. Then the rest of the players explain themselves.
I think he’ll go with Pablo up top. Castellanos was only announced yesterday, and Wilson played the whole match on Saturday so it’s unlikely he’ll be fit enough to start anyway.
Nuno Espírito Santo simply has to get his team selection spot on tonight, he have to win, if we don’t win we’re seven points from safety.a
He will be edging closer to becoming the first manager to ever be sacked by two Premier League clubs in the same season.
Not good for his reputation, but great for his bank account.
