It really is a bleak time for the Hammers, the squad is really missing leadership and that showed again in the defeat to Nottingham Forest.
We need to bring someone in to take control of that dressing room, they need someone shouting at them, telling them they’re not doing good enough.
What we need is someone like Kevin Nolan under Sam Allardyce. Big Sam brought his right hand man in and immediately made him captain.
I don’t necessarily think we should strip Bowen of the captaincy. I think we should bring someone in to work alongside Bowen for the reminder of the season, then make a decision from there.
Ideally we would do a double whammy, bring in a central defender that’s capable of leading the team, taking control of the dressing room. However, there isn’t too many names I could think of that we could realistically sign.
Charlie Cresswell is exactly the type of central defender we need, but I’m not sure he has the experience and leadership necessary for the role.
He’s not a central defender, but one guy who could fulfil that Kevin Nolan role to a tee is Ruben Neves. Nuno absolutely loves Neves, he worked with him for years at Wolves, and he has the leadership attributes we so desperately need
He has been linked with a move to East London already this month, Nuno is said to be keen on a reunion. However, a couple of games ago there was maybe a chance we could tempt him back to England from Saudi.
However, after losing to Wolves and Nottingham Forest. There is no way a player of his level would even think about coming to East London… surely?
I don’t see the harm in giving it a go, why not try get him on loan for the remainder of the season.
