West Ham shouldn’t be signing players to keep them up, they should be preparing for the Championship.

Forget any great escape, there is simply not enough fight in West Ham’s players to keep them up this season. Getting battered by Wolves and losing to Nottingham Forest has left them with one foot already in the Championship.

While, in a lot of ways it won’t be a bad thing, West Ham’s squad will be reduced to nothing when they go down. Bar a few senior players, as well as the likes of Scarles and Potts, it’s hard to imagine many of the players staying in the second division.

Despite Taty having an impressive debut in terms of work rate, he’s probably not going to be the second coming of Tevez we’re hoping for, and he’s probably not going to fancy dropping down a league. Whether or not Pablo is good enough, and whether he will stay, remains to be seen.

Every transfer the Hammers make in this window from now need to be players the won’t be afraid to spend a year in the Championship. If they’re not then it’s simply wasting money.

I’m not for one minute saying we should drop the quality of players we’re signing, what I am saying is we need to make sure the ones who do come through the doors are here next year no matter what.
