I think most West Ham fans agree that if they had to choose one, they would pick Nuno Espírito Santo over Graham Potter. But they about Julen Lopetegui?
A year ago yesterday, Julen Lopetegui lost his job as West Ham manager after just four months in charge. Since then, it’s got worse for the Hammers.
‘J Lo’ was sacked after seven wins in 22 games, leaving the club 14th and seven points clear of relegation. West Ham now sit in the relegation zone seven points from safety. In hindsight, really didn’t know how lucky we were under the Spaniard…
Since then, Graham Potter (24%) & Nuno Espírito Santo (13.33%) have both recorded lower win rates than Lopetegui (31.82%)
Despite the win percentage, I do think Nuno Espírito Santo is a better manager than Graham Potter. Who left this squad in an absolute state, and Nuno is paying the price of that.
Lopetegui is another manager that left the Hammers in a mess. All three of these managers were poor, but I think Lopetegui was the best of a bad bunch.
You could kind of see what Lopetegui was trying to do, he was playing his style, we just didn’t have the players capable of it.
As for Potter, he was clueless. We couldn’t defend, we couldn’t attack, we couldn’t keep possession even though that’s what Potter is all about and worst of all, we conceded almost every corner we came up against towards the end of his era.
Obviously Nuno’s win percentage is absolutely damming, we’ve won two games in nineteen matches under the Portuguese manager.
However, the team has been a lot better. But that can’t be an excuse anymore, Nuno has to turn that into points now.
We’re seven points adrift, if we don’t start winning he’s going to be sacked and have an even worse reputation in the Hammers fanbase than Graham Potter, and that is some achievement.
