With the Hammers seven points adrift of safety, the players have to step up for the manager, but there is one that has to improve a lot.
In the six years Jarrod Bowen has been in Claret and Blue we became used to him excelling in almost every match and stepping up when we’ve needed him the most.
However, this season has been a different case. While he’s still our top scorer on six above Lucas Paquetá on 5 and Callum Wilson on 4, Bowen hasn’t been good enough.
Not only is he scoring at the same rate as before, sometimes when he didn’t score he was still playing well, still creating chances and providing assists. However, not only have his goals dried up, his good performances have too and we’re paying the price
Look, it’s obviously on the other players too, the whole squad. But Jarrod is our best player and he’s just not showing it and he hasn’t since Nuno showed up pretty much.
This is nothing against Jarrod’s attitude, we all know he’s trying his best, maybe even too hard. He’s the club captain, he loves the club, and even if we’re talking selfishly, Bowen wants to earn a spot in Thomas Tuchel’s World Cup squad.
It feels harsh to put so much pressure on him, but with us seven points off safety, we don’t have any chance of staying up unless the Jarrod Bowen we all know and love can find his way back.
At this rate West Ham are getting relegated and Jarrod Bowen isn’t on the plane to the USA. Canada or Mexico to play in what would be his first ever and probably last chance to play in the World Cup.
