Midfielder Mateus Fernandes showed yet again why he’s been West Ham’s best player this season vs Tottenham.
Signed for a hefty £42m fee from relegated Southampton last summer, then manager Graham Potter was absolutely thrilled with the signing and so were the fans.
Graham Potter didn’t do much good in East London but the signing of Mateus Fernandes was certainly the best thing he did here.
He started slow in a West Ham shirt, us as a team started slow and are still very slow as we sit in the relegation zone. However, towards the end of Potter’s reign and since Nuno has come in Fernandes has been nothing short of brilliant.
He’s just an all-rounder, there isn’t much he can’t do. He’s energetic, he can pass, he can dribble past a man with ease, he’s brilliant defensively, works harder than anyone else and adds some creativity that this team certainly lacks.
But the best thing about him, which is something that is really under appreciated in footballers, is his availability. He has featured in all twenty of our Premier League games this season and has probably been our best player in half of them.
His performance against Spurs, in what was one of the few good team performances this seasons showed just how good he is.
